Employment with OCC Transport

OCC Transport's Training Program

Description:

Our Training Program is a fast-paced and rigorous program designed to produce safe, reliable, responsible, knowledgeable, and competent bus drivers. The program offers students an opportunity to earn a New York State Class B Commercial Drivers License. Not only will trainees earn this valuable license, they will also receive a small stipend upon successful completion of the program.

Program Overview:

The training program is currently a five-week program. Trainees have three to four three-hour driving sessions and a one-hour classroom session a week. The times for these sessions are flexible and we try our best to accommodate individual obligations. We do, however, require a certain level of flexibility from trainees. The program is fast-paced with the New York State CDL Class B Road Test occurring after the fourth week of driving. While the program is demanding, it is meant to be challenging and fun. Most of our drivers look at training as a unique and rewarding experience. All training and classroom sessions are mandatory. No exceptions.

NOTE: Training does not end after the road test! Hiring decisions are based upon successful completion of our entire program.

Applicants Must:

  • Possess at least ONE YEAR of active, licensed U.S. driving experience
  • Possess a CLEAN license (0 active points or violations)
  • Meet Department of Transportation (DOT) mental and physical requirements
    • Trainees accepted into the training program will receive a medical and drug screening at UHS Occupational Medicine, at the Company's expense
  • Intend to remain at least a part-time student at Binghamton University for at least four semesters

Hiring Policy:

OCCT is an Equal Opportunity Employer and conforms to all federal, state, and Binghamton University hiring guidelines. Hiring decisions are based upon:

  • Proven driving ability as shown through the Training Program
  • Reliability and commitment to all OCC Transport rules and regulations
  • Passing the NYS CDL Class B Road Test

NOTE: All hiring decisions are made by a committee of trainers, coordinators, and the Director. The Training Coordinator reserves the right to dismiss anyone from the program for violations of OCCT guidelines, unsafe or reckless behavior, or other transgressions deemed to be inappropriate. Upon being hired, drivers are required to participate in several unpaid programs like defensive driving. Drivers are also subject to random drug-testing.
