Riding with OCCT

Catching the Bus

  • Know when the bus should arrive at your stop, and be outside a few minutes early.
  • When the bus is approaching, wave or flag it down so the driver knows you are waiting to board the bus.
  • Wait for the bus on the sidewalk, not on the street.
  • Always enter through the front door, never through the rear door unless instructed to do so by the driver.
  • Please allow passengers who are exiting the bus off before you enter.
  • Have your current BU ID card ready to scan on our scanners.
  • Please see the section below on Lost/Forgotten IDs
  • To scan, tap the ID on the sticker of our logo on the back of the scanner.

Riding the Bus

  • Please consider OCCT buses as Binghamton University grounds. All Binghamton University Rules & Regulations do apply on our buses. Some actions, including possessing an open alcoholic container, may result in campus judicial hearings.
  • Please try to keep noise to a tolerable level while riding the bus. “Tolerable” is defined by the person driving. Our drivers need to be able to hear other passenger call for their stop and listen for sirens and other potential hazards.
  • Please deposit trash in the receptacle by the front exit door. This will keep our buses looking clean throughout the day.
  • Remember that you are in a moving vehicle. And that your safety and the safety of those around you are of the utmost importance. Please act responsibly and maturely. OCC Transport reserves the right to refuse transportation or remove any passenger that does not comply with these rules.

Leaving the Bus

  • Call your stop loudly and early to ensure the driver hears you and has enough time to stop, a simple “Next Stop, Please” is sufficient. If the stop is called too late, the driver may not be able to stop in time without potentially creating an unsafe condition for all passengers, in which case the driver will stop at the next designated stop.
  • If you do not know where the bus stop is, ask the driver when you board the bus. OCCT drivers are always happy to help you reach your destination, and would hate to have you get on the wrong bus.
  • Please do not stand in the stairwells or in the front of the white line at the front of the bus while the bus is in motion. This is a serious safety hazard and the driver cannot lawfully drive unless these areas are clear.
  • Never cross in front of the bus. After exiting please walk to the rear of the bus to cross the street as traffic is not required to stop for our buses.

Lost/Forgotten IDs

  • At this time, we cannot substitute B-Numbers or other credentials in place of your University issued student ID
  • If you have lost your ID card, please refer to the Registrar's website regarding IDs: http://www2.binghamton.edu/registrat/services/id-cards.html
  • If you have forgotten your ID card, you will not be able to board our buses. You must either seek a new ID card following the above website or seek alternate means of transportation. We are working on a system to better address forgotten IDs.
